Admittedly, the electric guitar has not evolved much since Leo Fender's strategically named creations made it big back in the times Joe McCarthy's (who?) shenanigans. Due to that, it's refreshing to see an instrument like the Fly, which implements the wonders of modern technology yet is undeniably a piece of guitar art. The design of a Fly tends to polarize (as a successful design should), but beyond that the Fly shape makes for a phenomenally ergonomic instrument. The features do not disappoint, and versatility is at an all time high.

The Fly comes with a fullscale paper-thin neck which would give the Ibanez Wizard a run for its money, 24 frets, deep set neck, Sperzel tuners, DiMarzio humbuckers, stainless frets, carbon fiber fretboard, composite reinforced body and neck, Fishman piezo bridge, active preamplifier, idiosyncratic ball-bearing tremolo with a built-in tremstop, stereo output. The Fly doesn't have: neck heel. At all. The body resonates beautifully, but weighs in at just four and a half pounds, and the composite fretboard has a tactile feel of ice.

There are more expensive guitars than a run of the mill Fly, but in my personal opinion, these guitars are the only ones out there which justify the high premium as a guitar. It's the Nissan GT-R of guitars, which might not have half a century of pedigree, nor the most luxurious appointments, but delivers unparalleled performance worth every cent you pay for it. Contrary to the analogy, your Fly will not spend four months of a year in a service bay of a local Nissan dealership (however should you wish to self-service the electronics, be prepared to face quite a challenge).
